Weekly Devotional - September 3rd

I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented the parts of your body as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, resulting in further lawlessness, so now present your body’s parts as slaves to righteousness, resulting in sanctification.

For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in relation to righteousness.  Therefore

what benefit were you then deriving from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the

outcome of those things is death.  But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God,

you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome, eternal life.

Romans 6:19-22

When we were in service to sin we had no righteousness in us. Yet, when God acted in our lives freeing us from that service, He separated us unto Himself to eternal life. But, wait a second, we still sin. What about that?

Yes, we still sin and will continue to this side of glory. That is why Paul added a concluding

statement. As a reminder of what God gives versus what we do.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gracious gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our

Lord.
