For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written: “But the righteous one will live by faith.”

Luther rightly proclaimed in the reformation, justification by faith alone is “the article upon which the church stands or falls.” In other words, this is the foundation upon which the Christian faith rests. The saving power of God is made available to all who believe, not to all inclusively, but to all who believe. In other words, it is made available to those who have faith, which is a gift from God (Eph. 2:8).
