BOMM Devotional - Week of January 16

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written: “But the righteous one will live by faith.”

Romans 1:16-17

To be ashamed of something is to be embarrassed by it. Even more so, when we are ashamed to do something it is out of reluctancy, or hesitancy. The apostle Paul was not ashamed of the good news from God, because his perspective of God was too high to be embarrassed. Paul considered God, the first cause of all things, the sustainer of all things, and the purpose of all creation, including salvation (Rom. 11:36). Therefore, when Paul speaks of salvation, it begins and ends with God.
